Arti Chavan launched her debut historical novel “Shadow of the Serpent Fort” at Title Waves, Bandra West, on 4 July 2026, unveiled by Shanthi Priya with Sandip Soparrkar as Guest of Honour. The event featured readings, discussions, and cultural insights into the Indo-Greek era set in 324 BCE, marking a significant literary debut in historical fiction.
The book was formally unveiled by acclaimed actor and classical dancer Shanthi Priya, who served as the Chief Guest at the event. Her presence marked a significant highlight of the evening, which was dedicated to storytelling, historical exploration, and the celebration of India’s cultural legacy.
Internationally renowned dancer, choreographer, actor, cultural ambassador, and Chairman of the India Fine Arts Council Sandip Soparrkar attended as Guest of Honour. A doctoral degree holder in World Mythology, he emphasized the enduring connection between literature, performance, and cultural preservation during his address.
The launch event featured the ceremonial unveiling of the book by Shanthi Priya, followed by remarks from distinguished guests, a reading from the novel, an interactive conversation with the author, and a book signing session attended by readers, members of the literary community, and invited media representatives.
Speaking at the launch, Shanthi Priya stated, “Stories have the remarkable ability to transport us across time and connect us with our shared heritage. I am delighted to unveil Shadow of the Serpent Fort, which brings a fascinating chapter of Indian history to life through imagination and adventure. I congratulate Arti on this wonderful achievement and wish the book every success.”
Sandip Soparrkar, addressing the gathering, stated, “Whether expressed through dance, cinema, or literature, storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to preserve culture and inspire future generations. I am delighted to be part of the launch of a novel that celebrates India's rich heritage while making history engaging and accessible for modern readers.”
The event also featured noted history professor Dr. Sonali Pednekar, who highlighted the importance of historical fiction in generating interest in lesser-known periods of Indian history.
At the center of the event was Shadow of the Serpent Fort, the result of six years of extensive research and writing by Arti Chavan, a former strategy leader at Meta and Microsoft who was born and raised in India and currently resides in the United States. Set in 324 BCE during the Indo-Greek period following Alexander’s departure from India, the novel combines political intrigue, adventure, loyalty, mystery, and supernatural suspense to reconstruct a lesser-known historical era.
Arti Chavan stated, “This book has been a six-year labor of love. Inspired by my children’s fascination with Greek mythology, I wanted to tell an equally engaging story rooted in India’s own extraordinary past. By setting the novel in the little-known Indo-Greek period after Alexander’s departure, I hope readers will not only enjoy the adventure but also be inspired to explore the remarkable history behind it.”
The novel marks the first installment in the Forgotten Kingdoms of India series.
Arti Chavan’s professional background spans nearly two decades as a strategy leader at Meta and Microsoft, an experience she credits for shaping the narrative’s focus on decision-making and moral dilemmas. She currently lives in California with her husband and two children, and this release marks her debut novel.
